Additional Information: | 2023: Based on Vernon County Plat Maps and comparable one-room schools in Vernon County, this building was originally constructed as the District No. 6 School circa 1896. The school building was later used as the Skogdalen Church Parish Hall. This building is a one-story, one-room school consisting of a rectangular plan, front-gabled school room with a lower, hip roofed rear addition. The foundation is cast, rock-faced concrete block. The exterior is clad in wood shingle with wood trim below the eaves. The metal clad roof slightly overhangs the exterior walls with wood plank soffit and fascia enclosing the eaves. The principal elevation faces southwest toward County Road P. The entrance is centered in the principal elevation below a shed roof, cantilevered awning and accessed by a poured concrete stoop. The front door is an unglazed, stile and rail door. The side elevations feature three evenly spaced 4-over-4 wood sash windows in wood casings. The rear addition also features a 2-over-2 wood sash window in each of the side elevations. A secondary entrance is in the southeast elevation of the rear addition. 2015: This is a front-gable, one story, mixed style structure. A shed addition was built at the rear. Doors and windows appear original. The front door is unglazed, fully paneled. The rear door is also unglazed with a protective storm door. The windows are 4 over 4 sash glazed. Concrete steps lead to both the front and side doors. Wooden shingles in coursed pattern make up the siding. The roof is likely not original, and replaced with metal sheets. A stone foundation is visible underneath the wall cladding. An overhang is placed above the front entrance. The overall condition appears to be normal. |
