Additional Information: | 2015- Rising from a stone foundation, this one-and-one-half-story, front-gabled house is sheathed with clapboard on the first level, while the upper, gabled, half story is covered with wooden shingles. Although wooden, all sheathing appears to be recent. The shed-roofed open porch with wooden columnar supports shelters the front door, as well as a pair of single-pane windows. A gabled wing projection to the south features canted corners and is more typical of pre-1900 homes. Windows throughout the house are one-over-one-light sash that, like the siding, appear to be recent replacements. Assessor’s records offer an 1877 date of construction for the house. While it’s possible that a portion of the home dates to pre-1900, the front of the home suggests a circa-1920 remodel/addition date. Plat maps offer the name of George F. Ostram as the owner in 1899, with ownership changing to Enos S. Wigdale by 1914. Wigdale, who is identified in the census as a fruit farmer, remained the owner until at least 1923. By the later 1920s, the owner was identified as George Anderson, who appears to have continued in fruit farming through at least 1940. By 1952, the parcel was owned by the LaVine family, who continues to own it, to date. Although recently incorporated into the City of Sturgeon Bay, the house was original built within the Town of Nasewaupee. -"CTH C/Duluth Avenue Survey," WisDOT ID #4997-00-63, Prepared by Heritage Research, Ltd.
