Additional Information: | The Garden Homes School was built in 1931 and designed by Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) architect Guy Wiley. The name was selected due to the building’s proximity to the Garden Homes housing project, which when built in 1922 was one of the first federally sponsored housing projects in the nation -- although no direct connection between the school and housing project was noted. The building remains active in the MPS system and is currently known as the Lloyd Barbee Montessori School. |
