Additional Information: | This largely side-gabled ranch house features a central, projecting, front-gabled section that encompasses the entry, as well as a tripartite window grouping. Sheathing of the home consists of a combination of board-and-batten and beveled wood siding, along with brick and stone veneers. A pair of slider windows is located at the north end of the house. There do not appear to be any alterations to the exterior of the home. This house, known as the “Harrison,” was built as a model home in the Fairy Chasm Subdivision in 1968 by Embassy Homes and was advertised for sale at $22,990 (plus lot). No original ownership information could be ascertained. The designer for approximately 95% of the homes produced by Embassy Homes was done by Jerome “Jerry” McGinnis (the other 5% was contracted out to Ray Prell). Born in Green Bay in 1929, he attended UW-Madison and earned his B.S. in Engineering & Commerce. Following work as a journeyman carpenter, he started Embassy Homes in 1961. They started with building apartments and, two years later, they began building single-family homes. Their first successful house was the “Jefferson,” a two-story, Colonial Revival design completed in the 1960s. There are 500 or more examples of the Jefferson (or a slight variation thereof); many of which are in Oak Creek and Menomonee Falls. The majority of Embassy Homes, of which there are over 3,000, are located in the immediate four-county area. |
