Additional Information: | 2012- "This building is one story in height and shares a party wall with its almost identical neighbor on the south side. It has a facing of dark red bricks on the main elevation and medium red bricks along the side wall. It has the same classically-influenced cornice as its neighbor and its storefront has been remodeled. Paneling covers the transom and the show windows appear to be later added. However, the paneled bulkhead is still extant. The entry door is modern. Initial research in the tax assessment rolls could not determine an exact date of construction) but historic photos indicate that this building was constructed for the post office, which had occupied the building on this exact site before a 1912 fire that burned several buildings at this location and further north along the street. The 1933 Sanborn Perris Fire Insurance map shows that it was still the post office at that time." -"Request for SHPO Comment and Consultation on a Federal Undertaking", Prepared by Carol Lohry Cartwright, Historic Resources Consultant, (2012). |
