Additional Information: | GREATLY ALTERED,RETURNED MOULDED EAVES FLAT ROOFED "DORMER" W/ ALTERED CHICAGO STYLE WINDOWS Resurveyed in 2009, alterations consist of vinyl siding and a triangular pediment above main door. "The Wescott Town Hall is a one-story side gabled meeting hall (c. 1910) with an asphalt-shingled roof with returned molded eaves and a flat-roofed dormer over the windows. The building is set atop a low raised foundation of rock-textured concrete block. The building is clad in aluminum and vinyl siding. At the left front corner, a flat-roofed projecting bay with a decorative triangular pediment with pilasters marks the front entrance. Two sets of new Chicago-style windows are located in the front facade. A wooden access ramp is present on the west side and wraps around behind the building. A new door has been cut into the rear wall to accommodate the ramp. The building's interior has been substantially altered. Several small rooms have been constructed, including a small vestibule for the exterior ramp. These new rooms have altered the size and shape of the main meeting room. In addition, two windows present in a c. 1978 photograph have been removed, making the interior substantially darker. Due to the alterations, it is difficult to identify the historic functions of the interior spaces. Personal anecdotes recorded at the Shawano County Historical Society suggest that the building was constructed as a school sometime before 1910..." |
