NOTES
Additional Information:The continued growth of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church eventually led to the construction of other religious buildings on the property, including a school. The first school, a 50 x 70 foot building, was erected in 1915 and named Sacred Heart School; it contained two classrooms and accommodations for nuns and boarders. A 1917 addition added more classroom space, as did a 1929 addition which then allowed the building to accommodate room for a high school. A 1951 addition provided recreational space, including a gym, twin bowling alleys, locker and shower rooms and a dairy bar. Despite the additional space, a dwindling student population forced the high school to close by in 1966. By 1970, the school eliminated middle school classes, and by 1980 the idea was floated to replace the school with a smaller, more efficient building. The new school, designed by Owen Ayres of Eau Claire, opened in 1981 and was renamed Holy Rosary School. With the exception of the 1951 gym addition, the former school was demolished. When it opened in 1981, the school boasted six classrooms, a library, and an office and teacher’s lounge. The school has since been renamed Assumption Catholic School after a merger with two other area Catholic churches.
