The 1873 map indicates T & B Bussey as the property owners and by 1890, Benjamin Bussey. An article in the Wisconsin State Journal calls Benjamin and his wife, Jane, “pioneers of the Albion Prairie area,” and the 1877 Madison, Dane County and Surrounding Towns notes the Bussey family as one of the earliest to settle in the Town of Albion. The Wisconsin State Journal notes that the Bussey homestead was settled in 1844, although the house was built later, in 1853. The 1880 History of Dane County states that Benjamin was a farmer, originally from England. He arrived to Wisconsin via Milwaukee, settling on his farm in 1844. Benjamin had seven children, including sons William and Ezra, who are indicted as the owners in 1904. According to The Capital Times, William, born in 1859, served as president of the Tobacco Exchange Bank in Edgerton and was also one of the founders of the Albion Cooperative Creamery and its president for many years. Beginning in 1911 Ezra owned the property. Ezra was a farmer and was a former vice president of the First National Bank in Edgerton. He also served as clerk of the Albion Prairie school board. By 1968, the property had transferred out of the Bussey family to Elmer Schutte. The Schutte family owned the property through 1993. Peg Erdman owns the property today
