NOTES
Additional Information:The 1861 map indicates James Clarke as the owner with a building depicted. The 1873 and 1890 maps indicate Samuel Clarke as the property owner. The Clarke family was one of the earliest to settle in the Town of Albion, and, according to the 1880 History of Dane County, Samuel Clarke was the first Englishman to the area. Born in England, he came to Wisconsin by way of New York, settling in Section 15 of the Town of Albion, where he farmed on 80 acres. Samuel served in his community as Justice of the Peace, member of the Town Board, and as Town Treasurer. Samuel probably built this house between 1845 and ca. 1861, using stone from a nearby quarry, perhaps even the one indicated on the 1873 map at 1112 WIS 73. By 1904, Jas. Craig owned the land; he was the owner through at least 1911. Later maps indicate John Craig, Otis Bosbon, Duane F. Wallace, Elsie M. Wallace, and Kenneth W. and Carolyn Dooley as owners. As of 2015, Brian W. Bothun owned the property.
