NOTES
Additional Information:The 1873 map indicates Lemuel O. Humphrey as the property owner; a building is indicated on the map as well as a stone quarry. According to the 1880 History of Dane County, Lemuel O. Humphrey was a farmer who came to the Town of Albion with his father, also Lemuel Humphrey, in 1844. They settled on this property that year, built a log house, and began farming 160 acres. Lemuel O. Humphrey served as a town treasurer, assessor, chairman of the town board, and also side supervisor. In 1880, his farm was approximately 244 acres. The 1890 and 1904 maps indicate Lemuel’s ownership, but interestingly, the stone quarry is no longer depicted. By 1911 the property transferred into the Arthur Vickers family, and included 134 acres. Russell Vickers owned the property by 1929. According to several newspaper articles, Russell farmed on the property and served as an officer for the Albion Cooperative Creamery. The property remained in the Vickers family until the mid-1970s; by 1979, Donald Harrington was the owner. Later maps show that the agricultural land once associated with the property was sold off. It is possible that the barn was once associated with the stone quarry but no evidence of this was found. Several phone calls to Daniel and Lisa Teeter, the owners, in April 2012, did not confirm this.
