NOTES
Additional Information:This American Foursquare house on the Bergenz Farmstead is set 0.16 miles south of Aliceton Drive, west of Caesar Road. The WHPD indicates this house was built in 1917, which could not be confirmed with county assessor records. Most views of this house were obscured from view due to its position set back from the roadway and beyond a hilltop. The house is representative of a turn-of-the-century residence in a restrained Greek Revival style and Foursquare form that is typical for the local area and period. In the 1899 atlas, this 180-acre parcel was owned and homesteaded by H. Fred. Schnitger. Its footprint was depicted slightly north of the present farmstead's cluster of buildings. Charles Baumann owned the 80-acre parcel in the 1919 atlas. The building site is still depicted slightly north of the present farmstead. In the 1937 aerial photograph, this farmstead, including the house and at least 3 barns/ag. buildings were evident here. The windmill could not be discerned.
