NOTES
Additional Information:This cream brick Greek Revival style house stands on the south side of Pipersville Road just west of Spooner Road. Its date of construction could not be confirmed in the WHPD or by county assessor records, but aerial imagery show it was built before 1937. The house is representative of a late nineteenth century residence in a restrained Georgian style in brick cladding that is typical for the local area. It exhibits features including segmented arch brick lintels, brick capitals at the gable-ends, dentil bargeboard beneath the eaves, and short second-floor hopper windows. The entrance is set in the north elevation, there is a replacement wood deck in poor condition. Windows and doors throughout are modern replacements. Its south elevation has a large boarded-over opening. It appears to be original and shares the same style flat stone lintel as the windows. This large doorway may have served as a loading bay. There are rear additions but they do not obscure details on primary elevations. In the 1899 atlas, this 80-acre parcel was owned by Fred Lambrecht, but no building site was indicated. The 1899 atlas directory notes that H. Schnitger lived here and was engaged in “farming, dairying, and stock raising” (Foote 1899, 58). Fred Schnitger owned the parcel in the 1919 atlas. This farmstead's building site was not depicted on either atlas. In the 1937 aerial photograph, this farmstead, including the house and large barn, as well as at least 3 nonextant/replaced outbuildings were evident. The large doorway on its south wall appears to be a loading bay. Because the apparent loading bay suggests an industrial function, additional research is recommended to determine its historic use and potential significance.
