NOTES
Additional Information:First floor covered with clapboard, upper half-story sheathed with wooden shingles. Porch constructed of brick. A "matching" garage is also located on the property.

This house was built circa 1928 by local farmer Henry W. Kiehnau and his wife Anna. Carl Leudtke, a carpenter, who resided in the home to the north (8734), sold the land in 1925 to Kiehnau and it’s possible that Leudtke was responsible for the home’s construction. As of 1930, the census enumerates Henry residing in the house with his unmarried daughter Meta. The home is, thereafter, understood to have been owned by Henry’s son, George Kiehnau, who worked at the greenhouses of Holton & Hunkel in Brown Deer. More recently, the property was owned by the Hickey family, who sold it in 2000 to CLL Properties of Mequon. The house currently functions as a two-family home.
Bibliographic References:Citations for information in Additional Comments below: U.S. Federal Census, Population, 1930; Dorothy Kittleson, ed., Brown Deer Heritage Almanac,11 (map), 13, Kittleson (now deceased) cited the home as that of George Kiehnau, with no further citations; although Kiehnau purchased the property in 1925; however, assessor’s records date the home to 1928, Deed information for the property was reviewed at the Milwaukee County Courthouse, Milwaukee, WI, Assessor’s records for 8726 N. Deerwood Drive; a review of a 1928 aerial confirms that the house was built by that time, Milwaukee County Land Records (mapping/aerial layers); Atlas: Town of Granville (1936 and 1937-38), atlases available at the Milwaukee Public Central library.
