NOTES
Additional Information:Photo code #2: 75BR-5/5-7 Excellent, late Art Deco school building, except for altered, energy efficient windows. The concrete parapet around the top of the gymnasium wing to the north has a stylized scallop and dart pattern which is repeated and elaborated upon in an inset freize above the entrance doors to the gym. These doors are flanked by two small rectangular windows having tall stone lintels with an incised dart pattern. Geometric ornamented entry; geometric stringcourse. The south wing is original to the whole and features a copper hip roof bay window facing east and a massive stepped chimney facing south. A non-extant school located in Tank Park was demolished in 1938 to make way for a new school building. Tank Public School, located at 810 South Oakland Avenue, was completed in 1939 using funds provided by the federal Public Works Administration for the project. The Art Deco style school was designed by Green Bay architect Harry Williams. Harry H. Williams was born in Two Rivers, Wisconsin in 1901. By 1923, he lived in Manitowoc and worked as a draftsman. In 1926, he moved to Green Bay and worked in the office of Charles Clark Reynolds as a designer. Working closely with Charles Reynolds, Williams worked on many school projects in Green Bay and the wider region. Williams married Renee Den Dooven in 1931 and remained in Green Bay, beginning his personal architectural practice in the 1940s. Harry Williams retired in 1974 and died in 1984.
