Additional Information: | THIS COMPLEX WAS BUILT IN STAGES. THE FIRST PART OF THE MOTEL WAS BUILT IN 1955. IT WAS THEN EXPANDED IN 1960 AND THE SEPARATE RESTAURANT BUILDING WAS BUILT IN 1966. 2024: This complex contains three buildings: 2 hotel/motel buildings and a restaurant. The restaurant is now a separate parcel at 3425 Church St. Historic aerial images and assessor records confirm that the office and westernmost motel mass were constructed in 1955. The eastern motel extension was completed in 1956. A separate, freestanding, 2-story building containing an additional 30 units was completed in 1966 (see AHI 246935). The restaurant was also constructed in 1966 (see AHI 246936). The one-story motel building (AHI 212141) was constructed in 1955 with an extension in 1956. The building is an irregular L-shape in plan and contains an office and residence in a side-gabled Ranch style building mass at its west end; this mass features stone veneer siding and an asphalt-shingled gable roof. The front elevation of the residence/office mass faces west and is asymmetrical in composition with wide gable spanning half of the façade and sheltering a single door and an adjacent picture window. A stone-veneered planter projects from the wall below the picture window. The south elevation of this residence/office mass contains the office door and is flush with the southern wall of the motel mass that projects to the east. The motel mass is clad in stone veneer with an overhanging flat roof with aluminum siding across its fascia. The south and west elevations of the motel contain a pattern of regularly-spaced doors and window banks with stone-veneered planters located opposite each unit; metal poles project up from each planter and serve as supports for the overhanging roof. Doors are sheltered under modern storm doors; window banks consist of a single picture window with adjacent one-over-one window. The original neon sign has been removed or covered with the existing signboard. |
