The mills manufactured wheat, rye, and buckwheat flours as well as corn products. The mill was well located for many reasons, one being located next to an unfailing water supply, and second; it was situated in the middle of two railroad tracks (Chicago and Northwestern and the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul). They also owned their own docks below the power supply, to give them access to lake navigation. The company name was changed in 1893 to J.P. Dousman and Columbian Milling Co. The following year the company became Columbian Milling, John P. Dousman was the president. In 1894 the company returned to J.P. Dousman Milling Co. The company was sold to Powell Milling in 1922. The five story 45' x 150' building burnt down in 1924 leaving one story and the limestone foundation. In 1938, with the land up for sale, Osen Milling bought the land and built a 35' x 160' metal building. This structure has decorated lugsill and segmented arched windows.
