Additional Information: | 2015- replacement windows and modern entrance door. According to current property owner the interior was modified in 2005 to function as a beauty salon. Electricity, plumbing, wood flooring, stairs to loft space added. The Flambeau Town Hall is a one-story front gable building constructed c.1888. It is of frame construction, sheathed in clapboard, and rests on a poured concrete foundation. Asphalt shingles cover the gable roof. The front (south) facade has a single centered door and no windows. Both the side (east) facade and side (west) facade are identical and have three, double-hung, six-over-six, replacement sash windows evenly spaced in the original openings. The front door has been replaced and a wooden ADA regulation ramp has been added to the front south facade of the building. The building was originally constructed as a one-room school of simple construction with a dirt floor and no plumbing or electricity. It quickly became too small for the number of children in the area and was repurposed as the Flambeau Town Hall. No alterations to the building were recorded at this time. It served as the Flambeau Town Hall until the early 1900s, when Ladysmith annexed the land and it was replaced by a new city hall building. When the building was acquired by the current property owner in 2005, the interior was significantly altered by adding electricity, plumbing, wood flooring, and a loft space. The building currently operates as a hair salon. 1975- 1ST SCHOOL HOUSE IN LADYSMITH. |
