Additional Information: | PARAPET W/ DEEPLY CORBELLED SEGMENTAL ARCH ARCADEORIGINALLY W/ SEGMENTAL ARCH WINDOWS W/ BRICKWORK STILTED LINTELSCNR PILASTERS W/ PAIRED COLUMN MOTIF TOPPED BY PYRAMID CAPS ALTERED 2ND FLR WINDOWS [Date Cnst:(FACADE)] 2018: This two-story commercial vernacular building was constructed in 1894. The brick-clad building rests on a concrete foundation, and the front (west) facade is framed by pilasters with pyramidal capstones. Corbelling is below the parapet, and the date of construction is centered in the middle of the front facade. Granite belt coursing forms the sill for the second-story windows that are topped by decorative brick. The original window openings have been downsized and filled in with brick, and the original central window opening has been completely filled in. The modern replacements are wood casements. The first story features a replacement storefront clad in vinyl siding with a recessed central entryway under a retractable awning. An exterior staircase has been enclosed in vinyl siding on the side (north) elevation. The opposite side (south) elevation features a two-story ell. A stone parapet carved with the word “Rasmussen” has been removed since the building’s construction. When it was constructed, the building was owned by local businessman Jacob Rasmussen. His general store operated from the first story, and he used the basement as a warehouse for his goods. The second story held living space. |
