Additional Information: | ABOUT 6 FT HIGH AND 7 FT IN DIAMETER. HEAVILY MORTARED FIELDSTONE WALLS. LARGE DOOR AND SMALL WINDOW. "My Dad knew of this structure as it was being built. There was a Polish gentleman from Chicago that owned property behind where this was built. He did not build this structure on his property. He built this in the early 50s because after WWII? it was said that people needed to build bomb shelters. He would come up from Chicago to erect this structure. The walls were about 1 foot thick and made with field stone. My father and his friends would be riding there bikes and see him working on that. The original roof is no longer there. The Polish man's intentions were to dig an underground area to hide in. That never was completed that my father knew of. There were 2 windows in the building. It still stands today however the original roof is not there." |
