Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. William A. Klatte went to school in Madison to become a lawyer. William A. began practicing law in 1899, and in 1905 co-founded a law firm with offices in the Germania Building. In 1910, he lobbied for creation of the position of Clerk of Civil Court for Milwaukee County, and was appointed to be the first one ever, a position which he held until his retirement in 1942. On April 29, 1920, while in his office, he made front page news when he was shot three times in the back by a “crazed woman” who was upset over being evicted from her home. He wasn’t expected to live at first, but did make a full recovery. |
