Additional Information: | It is thought that the west structure across the mill race was erected in circa 1890.1 It is a single span, arched bridge constructed of concrete, with a substantial post and beam addition. The arch of the historic bridge is 17' -4" long and 24' wide, the top of which is about 6' above the river bottom. The post and beam addition extends the bridge's width 14 feet to the south? The bridge today claims a 33-foot wide traffic deck with an 8' -3" wide sidewalk to the south. An immediately adjacent, but detached, 4-foot wide plank sidewalk accommodates pedestrians on the notih side of the bridge. The railing on the bridge is beam guard, which means that the original, concrete railings were previously removed. An attractive, concrete arch bridge when constructed, the character of this structure was significantly impaired when its concrete railings were removed and it was widened. The arch portion of the bridge does remain, but it is substantially obscured from view--especially by the addition to the structure's width that extends to the south. |
