Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the State Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. This two-story astylistic utilitarian ranger station features a rectangular shaped plan configuration, a concrete foundation, a rock-faced concrete block exterior, a wood trim, and an asphalt shingled multi-gabled roof. 3/1 windows are included in the architectural design. The interior is finished with plastered and painted walls, concrete flooring on the first story, and maple flooring on the second story. Two bedrooms and a back stairway to the store room were added in 1953. The station is in excellent condition. The Washburn Ranger Station has functioned since its 1936 date of construction as an office, a place for equipment storage, and living quarters for the ranger. The station was built during the W.P.A. program. In 1976, the building stopped being used as a living quarters for the rangers and the upstairs area was converted for use as offices. Remodeling took place and a new roof was added in 1991. That same year, drywall was installed and insulation was added for the first time. Previously the interior walls had simply been made up of plaster over the concrete blocks. The two rooms upstairs were remodeled and the floors sanded, a job which was completed by the foresters and rangers. Three additional room renovations are to be contracted soon. All new windows were added with the original frames left intact because the building is a "historic structure." It was designated as such at an unspecified date. Back stairway and added bedrooms added in 1953. 3/1 windows and maple flooring on second floor. |
