It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History. Additional Comments 2023: Two-story complex gabled ell plan with Queen Anne-influenced details. Porches have been removed. Clapboard siding, stone foundation, standing seam metal roof. Original openings are extant. Single-light double hung sash windows were replaced in a historic manner (tax credits). Interior details: mostly plaster covered walls and ceilings, wood floors (some refinished, some covered with carpeting), original trim around doors and windows featuring bull’s eye blocks (some topped with pointed arch trim pieces), original enclosed staircases. Kitchen spaces have 1970’s-era cabinets and vinyl floors. Baths have been modernized. Original interior doors are primarily constructed with vertical wood panels and have period hardware. History: This farmstead was homesteaded in 1876 by William Schuettpelz, although some information on line suggests that the farmstead may have been started by August Schuettpelz, a relative. The Schuettpelz family owned a large amount of land in this area in the late 19th century. The old log house on the farmstead was probably built around 1876 and the granary around 1880. In 1898 and 1905, August Schuettpelz owned more than 240 acres (maps). In 1911, according to the form, the large house was built. In the mid-20th century, a descendent, Leonard Schuettpelz farmed here until 1979, his retirement. A grandson, Jay Olson, owns the property now. |
