Additional Information: | 2011- Resurveyed; appearance unchanged. Duplicate AHI record 124466. 2010- This one-and-one-half-story side gable building was constructed by workers from the WPA between 1935 and 1941. The building is clad in fieldstone and has a wood shingle roof and multi-light windows. It served as the administration building with offices, program space, and gift shop. 2011- Resurveyed; appearance unchanged. Duplicate AHI record 169904. 2001- THIS COLONIAL REVIVAL ADMINISTRATION BUILDING WAS BUILT IN 1935-36 AS A WPA PROJECT FOR THE BOERNER BOTANICAL GARDENS. IT IS ARCHITECTURALLY SIGNIFICANT AS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF THE COLONIAL REVIVAL STYLE AND FOR ITS FIELDSTONE CONSTRUCTION. IT IS ALSO HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT FOR ITS ASSOCIATION WITH THE WPA, THE MOST IMPORTANT WORK PROGRAM DURING THE 1930S. Building was constructed as part of the Works Progress Administration. |
