Additional Information: | Barn - #169381 The oldest section of the house retains a cross-plan footprint and has a coursed feildstone foundation. Several additions extend from the rear of the original house and include a small one-story, enclosed breezeway and a side-gabled, two-bay garage. These recent additions rest on cement blocks. The Nicholas Krumrey House has been designated a Sheboygan County Landmark. Nicholas Krumrey (b.1848) was the son of one of the earliest settlers in the Town of Plymouth, Karl Krumrey. Karl arrived to the Town of Plymouth in 1849 from New York, settling on the same property, which at the time included 200 acres. Successfully engaged in the buying and selling of cattle, Karl later served as supervisor and assessor for Plymouth. On June 30, 1870 he was severely injured in a farm accident and died July 4. After his wife died the following day, their son Nicholas took over the farmstead. Nicholas became engaged in the buying and shipping of stock and later helped organize the Plymouth Farmer's Fire Insurance Association. The 1875 plat map indicates that Nicholas owned 120 acres between present day CTH E and Pleasant View Road. In fact, CTH E was previously named Krumrey Road. The 1889 map also indicates Nicholas as the owner of the property, which at this time included 140 + acres. Nicholas was also listed as a #28;dairy farmer that year. It's not clear when Nicholas or his wife Matilda passed away but his son Carl F. took over the farm after the death of his parents. However, by 1920, the 120-acre property was owned by William Mitwede. 2013 -- appearance unchanged. |
