It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History. Adjacent to a timber crib dam built in 1840s by a farmer named Johnson to supply power to the local woolen mill. Mill race was filled in 1961, observation deck added in 2000s. Abutments have been repaired, but remained of structure is original. Built to supply Kroehnke Brothers Milling Co and Badger Worsted Mills with power. By 1946, Badger Worsted Mills owned the dam. In 1952 they ceased using water for power and 1961 they filled in the mill race. Badger Worsted transferred ownership of the dam to the village of Grafton in 1961. Both mills are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (see AHI 13445 and 13447). Dam was recognized by the Grafton Historic Preservation Commission as a local landmark in 1999. |
