| Additional Information: | 2026: Located west of the barn/stable/paddock complex, this large pole barn was constructed c.1965 to serve as a riding arena. It is rectangular in plan with metal and vertical board walls and a gable roof clad in corrugated metal panels. A sliding barn door is located in the south elevation. The south end of the building’s eastern wall is open, providing direct access to the building’s interior. While the majority of the interior space is occupied by the riding arena (a large, open space with a dirt/sand floor), the space at the eastern end of the building is enclosed via plywood walls and likely served as a tack room. Prior to the construction of this building, Hillcrest riders utilized an indoor arena at the first Joa industrial property; Joa industries relocated to its current site adjacent to Hillcrest in 1960, and the subject building was constructed within the next five years to serve as a new on-site indoor riding arena. Large pole barn on Hillcrest estate (AHI#82628). |
