Additional Information:First bridge built in Duluth-Superior that did not need to be opened for marine traffic. Total length is 1,140 feet. 2022: The Duluth-Superior High Bridge, also known as the John A. Blatnik Bridge was completed in 1961. As part of the Interstate Highway System, it carries I-535 east from I-35 in Duluth. The bridge is 7,975 feet long and is comprised of 52 spans. The main three-span continuous-truss section includes a 1,140-foot-long center span rising 120 feet above an important navigation channel where the Saint Louis River empties into Superior Bay. The bridge has 34 steel-beam approach spans on the Wisconsin side stretching a total of 4,816 feet and 15 spans on the Minnesota side extending 2,019 feet.
