Additional Information: | THIS GABLE ELL FORM HOUSE WAS BUILT CA.1853 AND IS ONE OF THE OLDEST IN LANCASTER. THE HOUSE WAS THE HOME OF THE REV. SAMUEL EATON, THE CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH MINISTER IN LANCASTER WHO SERVED IN THE CIVIL WAR AS CHAPLAIN TO THE 7TH WISCONSIN INFANTRY. THE LETTERS HE AND HIS FAMILY LEFT THAT ARE NOW IN THE AREA RECORD CENTER IN PLATTEVILLE ARE AN IMPORTANT SOURCE OF EARLY INFORMATION ABOUT LANCASTER AND THE TIMES. The Eatons lived in this house from 1860 to 1886. At that time, the house was part of a 40 acre farm. |
