Additional Information: | This lumber warehouse goes beyond its storage function and has been designed in a style similar to German buildings around 1900; this is expressed in the windows, the roof profile, and the stucco with half-timbering. Sliding doors are replacements. HISTORICAL STATEMENT: For interior woodwork such as wainscoting, doors, windows, stains, or bannisters, the most significant and highly regarded company was the Scott, Hubbell and Taylor company begun in 1887. A complete line of millwork was asvailable for schools, post offices, court houses, and especially for churches crafted in every important architectural style such as Richardsonian Romanesque, late Gothic Rival, or Italiante styles. Their work survives today in the proposed West 2nd Street distrit in pivotal properties such as the Old post Office (now City Hall) 601 W. 2nd Street (36-21), the Wilmarth Block No. 2 |
