Additional Information: | Wisconsin Memorial Park was founded in 1929 by Col. Curtis R. Froedert (1887-1951) as a cemetery "without gloom." Wisconsin Memorial Park covers 160 acres on the south side of Capitol Drive. The cemetery is bounded by an iron fence set between stone posts. Two drives lead into the cemetery. At each driveway, the fence curves back from the road to create a semicircular entrance lawn. Each drive is also marked by a stone gatehouse (AHI 12541 and 12542). The main drive leads to the centrally-located Memorial Building (AHI 7787). Within the cemetery, large burial sections radiate out from the Memorial building, interspersed with #28;themed#29; areas (the Garden of the Apostles, the Garden of the Last Supper, the Gardens of Eternal Life, and Liberty Court.) All headstones are set flush to the ground. The landscaping is carefully planned to create a controlled, park-like setting. |
