It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the State Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. RETURNED MOULDED EAVES. FRIEZE WINDOWS. 6/6 1ST FLR WINDOWS. SEE SURVEY FILE. APPROX 60 X 30 FT. JUNEAU MOVED HIS FAMILY HERE IN 1852. 2022: The Solomon Juneau Homestead is a one-and-one-half-story, Greek Revival-style house constructed in 1847. It is of frame construction on a concrete foundation. It is clad in clapboard siding. The side-gable roof is covered with asphalt shingles and features gable-end returns, frieze band windows, and a projecting wood cornice. A short brick chimney is at the center of the ridgeline. Windows are original, wood, six-over-six, double-hung sash. The front (west) facade contains the main entrance at the south end accessed by the original pedimented entry porch, which is supported by two wood posts with spindle railings. The steps have been removed and this entrance is no longer used. A long horizontal sign fixed between the first-floor windows and the frieze band reads “Sol. Juneau’s Homestead, Founder of Theresa 1847.” At the west edge of the parcel and along the back edge of sidewalk along STH 175/ South Milwaukee Street is a tall stone retaining wall, topped with a white wood fence. A sign on the fence facing Milwaukee Street details the site’s ownership by the Theresa Historical Society. The name "Theresa” is spelled out in brick on the retaining wall. At the base of the retaining wall in the terrace is a small stone marker with a plaque for the Solomon Juneau Homestead. This homestead was built in 1847 as a summer home by Solomon Juneau, a French Canadian who established a trading post in 1833 on what originally was Native American camping grounds. He named the trading post Theresa and constructed the subject summer house approximately 0.08 miles south of the trading post in 1847. Juneau platted the village of Theresa the following year. The Juneau family moved to the subject house full time in 1852, which resulted in the creation of a village, Theresa. The house was originally 200 feet to the east and faced Menomonee Street, but was moved to its present location in 1932 to prevent its demolition.
