Additional Information: | A 'site file' titled "Arthur M. Karow Hatchery and Egg Farm" exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. THIS CORN CRIB IS A CONTRIBUTING STRUCTURE ON THE KAROW POULTRY FARM AND HATCHERY. IT HAS WOOD SHINGLES COVERING THE ROOF AND SLAT WALLS. IT COULD HAVE BEEN BUILT ANY TIME IN THE FIRST PART OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY, AS IT IS TYPICAL OF THAT ERA. IT WAS, THOUGH, MOVED HERE AROUND 1940 FROM ANOTHER LOCATION. IT IS CONTRIBUTING BECAUSE IT FITS IN ARCHITECTURALLY WITH THE OTHER BUILDINGS OF THE FARMSTEAD AND WAS MOVED WITHIN THE PERIOD OF SIGNIFICANCE 1930-1975. 2008- "The Arthur M. Karow Hatchery and Egg Farm is a farmstead developed in the mid twentieth century as a chicken hatchery and egg farm. The outbuildings are all related to the production of chickens and eggs except for the large concrete-block garage, a building that is related to a side business of Arthur Karow. The house was the home of Arthur and Lulu Karow. The contributing buildings are desclibed below. [The farmstead consists of the house [140399], hatchery building [150761], laying house [150764], granary [150763], poultry barn [150762], corn crib [150765], sales shed [150766], and the Karow Brothers Garage [150767]]. Corn Crib, moved to this location c.1940 [150765] This standard early twentieth century corn crib was moved here around 1940. It is a rectangular building sitting on a concrete foundation. The roof is covered with wood shingles and the side walls are constructed of horizontal wood slats. Wood slats also make up the end walls except for the gable peak, which is covered with vertical boards. There is a central passage through the building covered by vertical board sliding doors.
