Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History. Originally called Hotel Benedig, the building was also known as the Lake Park Summer Hotel and then Fleck's Resort (1899-1910). The date of construction for the building is approximate. The hotel does not appear on the 1902 plat map, but it is known that Fleck hosted fifty women from the Liedestaefel Society, so the hotel had to have built by then (Schoon and Urtel 2008). Fleck sold the resort in 1910. it passed through a series of owners until 1921, when Normal College in Indianapolis purchased the resort as a place for outdoor and summer classes. It was re-named Camp Brosius after George Brosius, a renown gymnastics instructor. The camp is currently a training facility for IUPUI students and a vacation resort for Indiana University alumni. |
