2011 - "This broad, one-story, Front Gable building currently serves as the Golf Pro Shop for Lake Lawn Lodge and appears to have been built ca. 1930. The building rests on a concrete slab foundation, is finished with clapboards, and displays multipaned, awning windows. A door flanked by fixed picture windows appears at the west corner of the front facade. Two, small, gabled dormers sit on the asphalt-shingled roof. A band or large, fixed windows on the west facade overlooks the golf course.
The Lake Lawn Hotel was established by the Mabie family in 1878. It was the first hotel (not extant) for summer tourists on Delavan Lake. Many hotels, campgrounds, and cottages followed, but Lake Lawn Lodge remained the largest resort on Delavan Lake, a position it maintains today. By 1891, the Lake Lawn Hotel had accommodations for 350 guests, was running a regular schedule of horse-drawn wagons from the depot to the front door, and kept an excursion steamer and small fishing boats, fishing tackle and bait on hand. In the early twentieth century, a separate dining hall, and a large ballroom and bar were constructed (all razed). In 1921, a golf course was added (extant, redesigned in 1990). The Golf Pro Shop appears to have been built ca. 1930, and was a banquet hall before the golf pro shop moved in...The Golf Pro Shop is the last surviving building of the resort and dates from the historic period." |
