Additional Information: | LARGE BROWNSTONE ADDITION TO OLD BRICK LIBRARY WITH ARCHES AND HIPPED ROOF A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the State Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation.* ORIGINAL PORTION (BRICK) BUILT IN 1893 AS WASHBURN PUBLIC LIBRARY (SHOWN ON 1893 SANBORN-PERRIS MAP AS "BEING BUILT." BROWNSTONE-CLAD HALF OF BUILDING BUILT IN 1937, WHEN BUILDING CONVERTED INTO CITY HALL, WHICH IT STILL IS TODAY. ALL WINDOWS ARE NOW MODERN AND SO IS THE INTERIOR. In a 1975 renovation, a $200,000 grant funded further exterior and interior work. At that time there was a desire to cover the original brick with brownstone to better match the addition, but this proved to be a significant challenge. |
