Additional Information: | Another map code for this building is WT 20/15, found on the DOT West Bend map. Situated on a corner lot, this two story other vernacular styled house features a rectangular shaped plan configuration, a brick foundation, a brick, clapboard and stucco exterior, a brick trim and an asphalt shingled hip roof. Corbelled brickwork distinguishes the corinice line at the front and side elevations. Beneath this cornice on the second story are segmental arched openigns, each of which contains either one or two windows. Brick lintels and projecting sills further distinguish these windows. A pent roof is covered with tiles and visually separates the first and second stories. An addition was built in 1970 and the first floor was altered from its original appearance. The former residence was built in 1870 and is in fair condition. (See Bib. Ref. A). It is related to a garage, constructed in 1972. (See Bib. Ref. A). Architectural/Engineering Singificance: This property meets criteria C of the National register requirements because the property retains enough of the character that it had when the town of Barton was growing and developing. This building contributes to the whole character of the Barton Historic District. |
