Additional Information: | DENTILLED EAVE. DEEPLYCORBELLED CORNICE W/RAISED CENTER PAVILION. Slightly projecting CENTER PAVILION W/BLIND ROUND ARCH ARCADE. BRICK PILASTERS W/STONE CAPS INCORPORATED INTO LINTEL COURSE. Heated with steam from an underground tunnel leading to the Underground tunnel. Originally had a feed store in the rear and a carriage repair shop. 2019 - appearance unchanged This two-story brick commercial building was constructed c.1875. The building is located on the corner of Forest Avenue and Fond Du Lac Avenue and faces northeast toward Fond Du Lac Avenue. The facade consists of three primary bays, within each of which are three smaller bays. The projecting central bay is slightly taller than its flanking bays and includes a central recessed entrance. Window openings on the north half of the façade’s first story are covered in vertically ribbed aluminum siding, while the south half retains its storefront windows. Transom windows across the façade have been boarded up. On the second story of the central bay is a blind arcade with three round arches. Within each arch is a pair of one-over-one-sash windows in downsized openings. The same windows are in the flanking bays. The parapet is accentuated with brick dentils and corbelling. This building was the L. Rosenheimer & Sons general store and was owned and operated by Rosenheimer brothers. The brothers also owned a grain elevator and operated a large malting and grain shipping business in conjunction with their merchandising. Today the building is an antique mall. |
