Additional Information: | Water was brought to this site by 1923 according to water works permit, so a circa 1924 date was given to the original garage portion. The 1928 addition was designed by the Hinkley Company and contracted by H. Swendson. The facade of this single story structure is symmetrical, displaying large picture/retail store front windows, a shaped front parapet topped with a concrete cap, and a recessed central entryway. The recessed entry features a shallow vaulted ceiling, large central glass door, sidelights, and matching large windows set into the side walls of the entry. A decorative crown molding acts as a lintel above the recessed entryway. Each set of large picture windows has a concrete sill, and a soldier (vertical) brick belt course runs the length of the facade at the top of the windows, and is terminated by a small, decorative concrete panel at each end. Three concrete panels are set into the facade below the shaped parapet. Two panels at the north and south corners display a shield bearing the initial "G", and the central panel displays a galleon at full sail. |
