Additional Information: | Known today as the south plant of Badger Fitness Equipment, this is a non-descript industrial complex that extends one half block north and one full block south of Madison Avenue-immediately west of the subject railroad tracks. The complex originated sometime after 1910 and before 1937. It was generally constructed of brick and has a variety of window styles. Those most evident are in the three-story structure in the southeast corner of Madison Avenue and 12th Avenue. Although some windows in that building have been infilled with concrete or glass blocks, the majority are rectangular with twenty, industrial-style lights. This industrial facility was historically identified as the Line Material Company, which manufactured outdoor lighting materials. The plant included in 1937 a machine shop, assembly area and a finished products warehouse, the later of which included storage on the first and second floors and an office area on the third. At that time, the complex's northern point was a steel frame building that extended across Madison Avenue. Sometime thereafter, likely in the late 1940s or 1950s, a one-story addition was built along 12th Avenue, to the south of the finished products warehouse. An extension to the north end was also was constructed which extended the building about one-half block. |
