Additional Information: | This building was constructed as an officer bath and latrine and was designed by Lt. Colonel Henry C. Hengels, State of Wisconsin Military Architect and Engineer. The building measures 60 x 18 feet and rests on a concrete wall foundation. The exterior walls are constructed of tan clay tile with red brick corner quoins. The gable roof is sheathed with composition shingles with exposed scrolled purlin ends. Two interior brick chimney stacks and five metal vents project from the roof. The upper walls of the gable ends are finished with a band of red brick. Rectangular wood vents are located in the upper gable ends. The windows are wood-frame, three-over-three-light, double-hung sash units. Some window openings are shorter than the normal. The windows have wood lintels, concrete sills, and brick surrounds. Two doorways containing metal doors are located in the east end. A single metal door and paired paneled wood doors, which are original, are located in the south elevation. The original doorways have brick surrounds. A few original vertical wood board window shutters have been retained. This building originally contained 10 water closets, 12 enameled basins, and 12 shower stalls. Hot water was provided by a steam boiler. A 1968 drawing was proposed to convert the building from a lavatory into a day room form for the 343rd Fighter Group, ADC, who were stationed at the installation between 1965 and 1972. In 1985, the building was altered into the base laundry. At that time, the overhead track door was installed. |
