Additional Information: | 2006- This motel complex consists of six buildings. The one-story, motel office has a hipped roof, wide wood siding and two-over- two, wooden sash windows. The remaining five buildings house the motel guests. The one-story building immediately north of the motel office is sheathed with artificial stone siding on all elevations except for the rear (east) elevation, which features wide aluminum siding. Fenestration consists of modern casement windows and small, one-over- one, wooden sash windows. North of this building is another structure similarly sheathed with artificial stone siding. Originally consisting of two separate cabins, wooden sheathed infill construction has created one structure, which features modern aluminum fenestration. A third building is sheathed with artificial stone siding that mimics the appearance of fieldstone construction. This structure has board-and-batten siding on the rear (north) elevation and large, modern picture windows. Across from this building is a one-story building with wide wood siding, modern sliding windows and an attached garage. The final building features an oversized, metal, front-gabled roof with composition sheathing in the gable, vertical wood sheathing below the composition sheathing, and lannon stone on the side elevations. "7 Mile Motel" is painted in large letters on the building's roof. The motel originally dates to 1950 and formerly included a restaurant. The one-story motel building with the attached garage and building with the oversized gable roof were added in the 1970s. -"I-94" WisDOT ID #1030-20-00, Prepared by Heritage Research, Ltd (McQuillen) (2006). May 2017: The 7 Mile Motel is now vacant and for sale. While no significant changes have occurred to this property since it was surveyed in 2006, it is worth noting that the shingles on the 1970s addition on which "7 Mile Motel" was painted are now gone, thus exposing the tar paper and wood decking beneath. |
