NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. According to oral interviews, the building was historically used as a cheese factory and subsequently was reused as the town hall. The half-acre was owned by Ed Hawley in 1904. The town defeated a motion to build a town hall in this location in 1904. Ed Thomas build the first cheese factory on this parcel in 1912, Thomas sold to H. Ehlman, and in turn Ehlman sold in 1920 to Emil Bartz. This original cheese factory burned in 1924. The present building was built in 1925 by a cooperative known as the Peck Dairy Produce Company. The cooperative received their license to operate on September 9, 1925. Stock was sold at $100.00 per share with a Capital Stock of $4000.00. Emil Bartz sold to the cooperative the one-acre parcel of land and a boiler for $1000.00. August Seefeld was the first cheese maker and was followed in 1927 by Mike Simon. Milk was purchased locally. Milk was purchased from the Morley cheese factory in 1930. The Antigo Milk Products Cooperative opened for business in March 1931 and the Peck cheese factory closed. The Town of Peck began renting the cheese factory for town meetings in 1934 for $40.00. The Peck Dairy Produce Company cooperative was dissolved in 1941 and the business was sold to the Town of Peck. The Town of Peck intended to continue to use the building for a town hall.
