| Additional Information: | October 2005-The Ashippun Fire Department building is located in the unincorporated community of Ashippun. It sits on a large site surrounded on three sides by large lawns punctuated with some mature trees. The lawn space extends in front of the west quarter of the building, or office section. A large concrete pad sits in front of the rest of the building (truck entrances) and runs all the way to the street. The building, itself, is a long rectangular, one-story, fire house with a flat roof and walls covered with stone veneer often known as "lannon stone." There are two sections to the building. The original section built in 1954 takes up the eastern one-third of the building. This section has a two-door opening for fire trucks. The remaining two-thirds of the building was added in 1972. The architectural details and form of the building are identical to the 1954 section and can only be ascertained upon close inspection of the stone veneer, the date stone, and the interior. The 1972 addition included a three-door fire truck section and an office and meeting room area. All of the large fire-truck doors are similar. They are large garage type doors with small narrow openings. The original section of the building is accented with flared stone veneer covered piers and flat piers between the doors. Between the original section and the more recent addition, there is a plain utility door entrance. The office and meeting room section of the building has paired sash windows flanking the office entrance that is enclosed with a simple utility door. The door is accented with smaller stone veneer covered flared piers that except for size, exactly replicate the piers on the original section of the building. The stone veneer covering is almost an exact match between the original and later sections of the building and although most of the building is from the 1972 date, because of the attention to detail and good architectural style of both sections, the building has a harmonious appearance. |
