Additional Information: | November 2000-Resting on a stucco-clad foundation, this largely vernacular, two-and-one-half story, circa-1870s, front-gabled residence is sheathed with asbestos siding and exhibits elements of the Italianate style. The front-gabled roof is covered with asphalt shingles and the eave junction is defined by a plain, wooden cornice. Fenestration primarily consists of regularly spaced, two-over-two, double hung sashes each situated within a raised, segmentally arched surround highlighted by a central, carved ornament. The main (east) facade carries an open entry porch offset to the north (right). The porch's decorative elements, which are not consistent with the period, include a pedimented gablet, turned support posts and spindle work. Two double-hung sashes are situated on the first level while the second level possesses three such examples; a lunette is centered within the gable. Records on this property are scarce. The earliest available deed indicates that the estate of Erhart Guse was passed to Altina Guse in 1923. The latter continued to occupy the tract until she sold it to John Welch in 1956. Research failed to reveal information on any of these individuals. |
