Additional Information: | This one-story building has a raised basement story, a rectilinear plan main block, exterior walls that are clad in tan brick, and it is sheltered by a shallow-pitched hip roof having overhanging boxed eaves that are supported by brackets placed near the corners. In addition to the main classroom block there is also an equally tall hip-roofed ell attached to the right side of the main facade that contains the main entrance to the building and the stairwell that serves it. All the building's original doors and multi-light double hung windows are still intact and the entire building displays an unusually high level of integrity for a building of this type. The present Linwood School replaced an earlier, smaller school building on the same site and while it is no longer used as a school building today it appears to still be in excellent condition. Because almost all smaller historic school buildings in Wisconsin have ceased to be used for their original function, intact examples of this resource type have become increasingly rare and ones such as this that have a well defined architectural style are rarer still (2005). |
