Additional Information: | RETURNED EAVES, LARGE ROUND ARCH SHELL OPENING W/ KEYSTONE MOTIF. GIVEN IN MEMORY OF EDWIN AND MARY JAEHNIG. THE FLAG PAINTING THAT DECORATES THE INSIDE OF THE SHELL WAS PAINTED IN JANUARY, 1985 AS A MEMORIAL TO THE DECEASED MEMBERS OF THE VAN ELLIS SCHANEN AMERICAN LEGION POST #82. Lake Park and the associated park buildings were designed by the Milwaukee based landscape architects Boerner and Boerner and were a gift to the city from Edwin and Mary Jaehnig in 1934, who donated funds to support the city’s new park development during the depression. The park was completed in the following year in 1935. The park and park buildings are located at 410-442 North Lake Street along the shore of Lake Michigan and presently serve as a small and popular park at the heart of the city. The interior of the Band Shell was painted with a large American flag in 1985 in honor of the city’s 150th anniversary. |
