Additional Information: | This two story residence is comprised of a front facing wing and a side gabled ell to the south. Although the spindlework frieze and turned supports of the original, open porch remain intact, the porch is now enclosed with modern windows and a door. The area above the porch includes a wall dormer that carries a single, sash window. The front facing wing of the home features a rectangular bay window along the first floor, while a pair of sash windows occupy the first level. Remaining fenestration consists of regularly placed and singly arranged sashes. Ginny Hall identifies this house as the Fred Horch Residence; however, tax rolls and plat maps indicate that Horch's home was a few lots to the south. Instead, this property appears to have been initially owned by Robert Campbell, the Second Chief Engineer of the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad, was also the person who platted Sharon. Tax rolls are somewhat unclear since Campbell owned a number of lots and they were not clearly separated out until Sharon became a village; however, it is apparent that this house was likely in place by the early 1880s. Between 1888 and 1889, the house was purchased by local wagonmaker John Rasmus. |
