ROCK-FACED LIMESTONE FACADEPOINTED ARCH WINDOWS W/ TREFOIL TRACERYROSE WINDOW IN STEEPLE3000 POUND BELL IN STEEPLESTAINED GLASS Erected by its German Lutheran congregation to replace a smaller, earlier building, this Gothic structure contrasts rough quarry stone sides with a more formal, rock-faced limestone facade. The stone came from the Anschuetz quarry in Cedarburg. A few years later a chancel was added to the south. The buttressed tower formerly housed two bells, the larger one weighing 3,054 pounds installed in 1891; however, it was removed and reinstalled in the street level bell tower in 2004 to commemorate the congregation;s founding in 1852. Originally the tower also housed a hand-wound clock. The wooden mechanism of this clock is on display in the church. Note the art glass windows installed at the turn of the century. -A Walk Through Yesterday in Cedarburg |
