SEGMENTAL ARCH WINDOWS ON STONE SILLSCUT LIMESTONE QUOINSTRANSOMS OVER SEGMENTAL ARCH DOORSONE OF OLDEST BREWERIES IN SE WISCONSIN [Date Cnst:-1848] "One of the oldest breweries in southeastern Wisconsin, Cedarburg Brewery was constructed of limestone block with dressed quoins. Originally the Engels and Schaefer Brewery, its prominence as the Weber Brewery occurred after Dr. Fricke and Jonathan Weber Sr. purchased it about 1860. Under the ownership of Cedarburg entrepreneur John Weber Sr. it reached its peak production of 2,200 barrels annually. Operation ceased with Prohibition in 1920. Immediately to the south of the brewery is the brew master's home of limestone, faced with cream city brick. The southwest corner of the building was used as an office. Set back to the north of the brewery is the stable. Four decorative cupolas were destroyed by fire in 1943." A Walk Through Yesterday in Cedarburg |
